Our Approach

TS 16949 implementation, when done correctly, does not require you to adopt unfamiliar procedures but can be based on matching your current activities to address the TS requirements. We always begin by documenting your processes as they are. Then we verify and document that all of the TS 16949 requirements are met by your current processes. Usually nothing more than “tweaking” is required to bring your processes up to the TS level.

Once the system is documented we train your employees to conduct simple and easy maintenance activities that require limited experience of the standard itself and ensure easy and inexpensive operating costs. Our systems are designed so that as they mature, they drive tangible benefits of continual performance improvement from your TS based system.

Our approach is to very precisely interpret the standard and apply it in a way that makes sense to you while being compliant with the standard. We’ll never ask you to do anything that is not in the standard and will always try to focus you on adding value. We will also try to steer you towards reliable, precise and inexpensive registrars!

We believe that a TS management system can provide tremendous benefits to an organization, increasing performance and reducing fire-fighting but we recognize that at least part of the objective of your TS project is usually to get an TS certificate. Our consultants are RABQSA certified Lead Auditors. That means that they know exactly what the registrar will be looking for in the certification audit.

There are things to do to make it easy to pass an audit and others that will make it difficult. One absolutely critical concern is to build a TS system that can be demonstrably proven to meet the requirements. Although documented procedures are only mandatory in six areas of TS, our procedures address all requirements so that they are easily explained and maintained. If you don’t have procedures to describe how you meet all the requirements, then how are you going to ensure you consistently address them? How are you going to train new people and explain to them the required processes and importantly, if an auditor asks how a particular requirement of TS is addressed then how are you going to remember the correct answer – especially if the people involved in your original TS project have moved on?

We take your existing processes and activities and document them! This is the approach we use, as described above. You end up with a set of documents that meaningfully describes what you do and easily correlate

What is TS 16949?

As a result of the harmonization efforts of the supplier quality system requirements of vehicle manufacturers worldwide, the Chrysler Group, Ford Motor Company and General Motors Corporation, as part of the International Automotive Task Force (IATF), have each decided to adopt the new ISO/TS 16949:2009 standard. ISO/TS 16949:2009 is the automotive quality system requirements standard based on ISO 9001:2000,

The ISO/TS 16949:2002 was jointly developed by the INTERNATIONAL AUTOMOTIVE TASK FORCE (IATF) and Japan's JAMA members and submitted to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for approval and publication. This document, coupled with customer-specific requirements defines quality system requirements for use in the automotive supply chain. The IATF has now revised the ISO/TS 16949:2002 to align with the new ISO 9001:2008 standard, today called the TS 1649:2009.

ISO/TS 16949:2009 is based on ISO 9001:2008. Fundamentally, ISO/TS 16949:2009 is a globally recognized automotive sector requirements document. This standard requires increased supplier management commitment to quality system improvement and performance measurements based on data and full process reviews. As a minimum, this standard provides a supplier to vehicle manufacturers a single quality management system recognized by all IATF-participating companies. The IATF participating companies recognize the IATF 3rd party certification process for the standard as demonstration of compliance with ISO/TS 16949 and any customer specific requirements.

Who is the INTERNATIONAL AUTOMOTIVE TASK FORCE (IATF)?

The IATF is an "ad hoc" group of automotive manufacturers and their respective trade associations, formed to provide improved quality products to automotive customers worldwide. IATF members include the following vehicle manufacturers: BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Fiat, Ford Motor Company, General Motors (including Opel Vauxhall), PSA Peugeot-Citroen, Renault SA, Volkswagen and their respective trade associations - AIAG (U.S.), ANFIA (Italy), FIEV (France), SMMT (U.K.) AND VDA (Germany).
